Flinders Highway widening (Townsville - Torrens Creek)

Overview:

Pavement widening and strengthening on the Flinders Highway between Townsville and Torrens Creek.

Location:

Flinders Highway, at Mingela and Sellheim between Townsville and Torrens Creek.

Completion:

Construction commenced in June 2018, and is due to be complete in mid-2019.

Benefits:

This upgrade will improve safety and efficiency for road users, and reduce road maintenance costs.

Supplier:

F K Gardner and Sons Pty Ltd are delivering this project on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Funding:

$17 million funding includes:

  • $13.6 million committed by the Australian Government
  • $3.4 million committed by the Queensland Government.

Project info

On 24 October 2016, the Australian Government announced funding for the Flinders Highway widening (Townsville – Torrens Creek) project under the Northern Australia Roads Program.

The Northern Australia Roads Program forms part of the White Paper for Developing Northern Australia, a $600 million commitment to enable upgrades to high priority roads in northern Australia essential to the movement of people and freight to support economic development in the north.
