Project info

In August 2017 the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast each committed $5 million to progress the Detailed Business Case to analyse options for Stage 3A.

Lead by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, detailed planning is being undertaken to identify a preferred, dual light rail track in the centre of the Gold Coast Highway from Broadbeach South light rail station to Burleigh Heads.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has prepared a Reference Design for the third stage of the Gold Coast Light Rail.

The maps show the proposed alignment and station locations. These maps are for the purposes of community consultation only.

The Detailed Business Case is expected to be complete by late 2018 and will inform the government about the proposed route, station locations, procurement, financial and budget implications of the project.

Similar to the delivery of Gold Coast Light Rail Stages 1 and 2, any decision around future state government funding for the delivery of Stage 3A is dependent on funding commitments from the Australian Government and City of Gold Coast.

Should the project progress to construction it would take approximately 3 years to build Stage 3A.
