Gregory Developmental Road: Cape River Bridge

Overview:

Construction of a new, wider bridge and approaches.

Location:

Gregory Developmental Road, approximately 100km south of Charters Towers.

Completion:

Construction commenced in April 2017 and the new bridge is expected to be open to traffic in late 2018. Demolition of the old bridge is expected to be completed in early 2019.

Benefits:

This upgrade will improve safety and efficiency for road users, as well as flood immunity of the busy Gregory Developmental Road.

Funding:

The $34.6 million project is funded by the Queensland Government.

Project info

Construction of the Cape River Bridge project commenced in April 2017. The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic in late 2018 and demolition of the old bridge is expected to be completed in early 2019.

As part of the project, approximately 2km of road approaches to the Cape River Bridge will also be upgraded. 

This project will increase the width of the Cape River Bridge, improving safety for motorists and heavy vehicles; whilst also improving flood immunity.
