Gregory Developmental Road: Cape River Bridge

Overview:

Construction of a new, wider bridge and approaches.

Location:

Gregory Developmental Road, approximately 100km south of Charters Towers.

Completion:

Construction commenced in April 2017 and the new bridge opened to traffic in late 2018. Demolition of the old bridge was completed in January 2019.

Benefits:

This upgrade has improved safety and efficiency for road users, as well as flood immunity of the busy Gregory Developmental Road.

Funding:

The $34.6 million project was funded by the Queensland Government.

Project info

Construction of the Cape River Bridge project commenced in April 2017 and was completed in January 2019. The new bridge opened to traffic in late 2018 and demolition of the old bridge was completed in early 2019.

This project has provided a wider bridge over the Cape River, improving safety for motorists and heavy vehicles; whilst also improving flood immunity.  Approximately 2km of road approaches were also upgraded, providing safer conditions on the approaches to the bridge.
