Gregory Developmental Road: Charters Towers to the Lynd


Pavement widening and strengthening around 16km of narrow sections on the Gregory Developmental Road.

Construction commenced on the first site in June 2017; and construction at all sites is expected to be complete in mid to late-2020.


This upgrade will improve safety and efficiency for road users.


Both Charters Towers Regional Council and RoadTek are delivering the project on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.


The $45.41 million project is funded by the Queensland Government.

Project info

Both Charters Towers Regional Council and RoadTek will be delivering the road widening and strengthening works at a number of work sites between 2016—17 and 2019—20.

Construction of the first section between Bluff Downs Road and Basalt River Bridge was completed in June 2018.

Construction of the second section extending north-west from Basalt River Bridge commenced in August 2018. Work is being carried out by Charters Towers Regional Council and is due to be complete in late-2019.

Construction of the third section, south of Greenvale, will be carried out by RoadTek. Work is planned to widen and rehabilitate this 2.6km section in March 2020.

All works are expected to be completed in  mid to late-2020, construction and weather conditions permitting.

The road widening and strengthening works will improve safety for all users of Gregory Developmental Road, particularly heavy vehicles.
