Project info

The Queensland Government allocated $690,000 in funding for this project under the Queensland Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program, which aims to improve safety at both potential and known crash locations along the state-controlled network.

TMR investigated the need for a designated crossing in this area following community and business concerns about pedestrians crossing between Bramble Bay foreshore and food services and other retailers on Hornibrook Esplanade. With no other crossing facilities nearby, pedestrians are potentially at risk when attempting to cross  lanes of traffic.

A proposed design was issued for community feedback in August 2017. Following this, TMR conducted further investigations and refined the design. The design provides a controlled, safe road crossing for all types of pedestrians. Construction began in February 2019 and was completed in May 2019.
