The Mackay-Eungella Road and Marian-Hampden Road intersection upgrade project will improve the safety for road users and relieve congestion on David Price Way, Marian.

Mackay-Eungella Road, intersection of Marian-Hampden Road with David Price Way.

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2020, weather permitting.

The project will:

  • minimise crashes at this location
  • improve safety for users of Mackay-Eungella Road and surrounding side roads
  • reduce delays and queuing during peak hours for vehicles coming out of David Price Way turning right onto Mackay-Eungella Road
  • minimise congestion
  • cater for future population growth
  • improve surface skid resistance

The Queensland Government has invested $1.3 million funding as outlined in the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2019-20 to 2022-23.

Project info

In May 2018, the Queensland Government announced funding for design of the Mackay-Eungella Road and Marian-Hampden Road intersection upgrade. The upgrade will focus on the safety of all motorists and will also aim to relieve congestion and increase efficiency at this location.

The Mackay-Eungella Road and Marian-Hampden Road intersection upgrade is one project included in the broader Safer Roads Sooner (SRS) program. The SRS program targets road safety improvements at locations with a high severity crash history.

Due to increased residential, commercial and industrial growth in the Marian township, this has produced higher traffic flow, resulting in congestion and crashes. The upgrade involves changes to the existing Mackay-Eungella Road/Marian-Hampden Road intersection with David Price Way and introduce a signalised intersection, reducing congestion and improve safety.

In addition to the signalised intersection, enhanced signage, a pedestrian crossing on David Price Way and resurfacing works will also be implemented.

Community info

Nightworks will occur to ensure there is limited disruption to residents and businesses in the area. Single-lane operation with reversible flow will be required.
