Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade

Overview:

The department is progressing a detailed business case for a major future upgrade of the Mooloolah River Interchange at Mountain Creek.

Location:

Mooloolah River Interchange, Mountain Creek.

Completion:

The detailed business case will be completed by mid-2020.

Benefits:

When constructed, this infrastructure upgrade will benefit motorists through improved safety, better network connectivity, and reduced travel times.

Funding:

$7.5 million Queensland Government funding for detailed business case development.

Project info

A detailed business case is being progressed for a major future upgrade of the Mooloolah River Interchange at Mountain Creek.

Preliminary planning has been completed and a preferred planning option has been developed for the future upgrade. This includes:

  • major upgrades to the Mooloolah River Interchange and connections to the Sunshine Motorway (east-west and north-south links) and Nicklin Way
  • a new road connection across the Mooloolah River connecting the upgraded interchange with Kawana Way at Parrearra
  • upgrading the Sunshine Motorway from the Mooloolah River Interchange to Kawana Way from 2 to 4 lanes
  • new local road links providing a direct connection for northbound traffic on Nicklin Way to Brisbane Road in Mooloolaba, and a new link between Karawatha Drive in Mountain Creek and Brisbane Road.

The detailed business case is due to be completed by mid-2020.

Funding for construction will be considered during future program reviews and is subject to competing state-wide priorities.

Preferred planning option

Project benefits

When constructed, the preferred planning option will:

  • improve safety and eliminate traffic weaving issues on the Sunshine Motorway near Mountain Creek
  • improve network connectivity with a new crossing of the Mooloolah River connecting the upgraded interchange with Kawana Way at Parrearra
  • reduce travel times for motorists
  • improve capacity and ensure road infrastructure can cater for rapidly growing transport demands on the Sunshine Coast.
