Morayfield Road between Caboolture River Road and Church Street intersections

Overview:

Design is progressing well to improve motorist and pedestrian safety on Morayfield Road between Caboolture River Road and Church Street intersections in Caboolture.

Location:

Morayfield Road between Caboolture River Road and Church Street intersections.

Completion:

Detailed design is anticipated to be complete in 2019, with construction scheduled to commence in the 2019/2020 financial year.

Benefits:

The project will improve road safety and pedestrian movements by implementing high-benefit, cost-effective intersection safety treatments, which will address known and potential crash locations on Morayfield Road between Caboolture River Road and Church Street intersections.

Funding:

This project is being delivered as part of the $28.8 Morayfield Road and Beerburrum Road Route Safety project, delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s Targeted Road Safety Initiatives Program.

Project info

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is underway with design work to improve motorist and pedestrian safety between Caboolture River Road and Oaklands Drive on Morayfield Road in Caboolture. 

Proposed safety improvements will include:

Morayfield Road and Caboolture River Road intersection

  • Extend the right-turn lane on Morayfield Road to provide increased storage capacity for vehicles turning into William Berry Drive (south).
  • Remove the service road adjacent the school and provide a new deceleration lane for school park access. 
  • Signalise the left-turn movement on Caboolture River Road for vehicles turning into Morayfield Road. 

Morayfield Road between Devereaux Drive and William Berry Drive (north) intersections

  • Upgrade existing pedestrian crossing on the southern side of Devereaux Drive intersection to a staged crossing.
  • New cycle lane provided between Deveraux Drive and Michael Avenue intersections.
  • Upgrade the median on Deveraux Drive to accommodate upgraded pedestrian facility.
  • Relocate the pedestrian crossing from the northern side of Michael Avenue intersection to the southern side of the intersection.
  • Extend the right-turn lane on Morayfield Road to provide increased storage capacity for vehicles turning into Michael Avenue.

Morayfield Road and Torrens Road intersection

  • Relocate the pedestrian crossing on Morayfield Road from the northern side of Torrens Road intersection to the southern side of the intersection.
  • Upgrade the traffic signals to control all traffic movements at the intersection.
  • Provide dual right-turn lanes on Morayfield Road for vehicles turning into Torrens Road.
  • Widen Torrens Road to accommodate dual right-turn movements from Morayfield Road.
  • New dedicated left-turn lane on Morayfield Road for vehicles turning into Torrens Road.
  • New cycle lanes on Morayfield Road.
  • Provide new cycle hook-turn for right-turn cycle movements into Torrens Road.

Morayfield Road between Jacaranda Avenue and Market Drive intersections

  • Upgrade Jacaranda Avenue intersection with Morayfield Road to a signalised intersection.
  • New staged pedestrian crossing on Morayfield Road on the northern side of the Jacaranda Avenue intersection.
  • Frank Street changed to left-in, left-out traffic arrangements.
  • Remove the existing pedestrian crossing on Morayfield Road from the southern side of the Market Drive intersection.
  • Install a new staged pedestrian crossing on the northern side of the Market Drive intersection.
  • Extend the right-turn lane on Morayfield Road to provide increased storage capacity for vehicles turning into Market Drive.
  • Realign the left-turn lane on Market Drive to improve visibility.
  • New shared cycle lane on Morayfield Road. 

Morayfield Road between Queen Street and Parklands Crescent

  • New cycle lane provided on both sides of the road.
  • Upgrade the pedestrian crossing near Church Street to a staged crossing.
  • Extend the right-turn lane on Morayfield Road to provide increased storage capacity for vehicles turning into Church Street.
  • Dedicated left-turn lane on Morayfield Road for vehicles turning into Oaklands Drive.
  • Service road (off Oaklands Drive) entry for local residents/businesses converted to one-way only (southbound), with an exit via Morayfield Road.

Design is anticipated be complete in 2019, with construction scheduled to commence in the 2019/ 2020 financial year. The project team will be in contact with nearby businesses and surrounding stakeholders to provide more details prior to construction commencing.

These works will be delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s $28.8 million Morayfield Road and Beerburrum Road project to improve safety along section of Morayfield Road and Beerburrum Road between the Bruce Highway and the D’Aguilar Highway overpass.
