Pacific Motorway: Exit 49 Pimpama northbound off-ramp safety project

Overview:

A $1.5 million project to improve safety and reduce congestion and queuing on the northbound off-ramp at this Pacific Motorway interchange.

Location:

Pacific Motorway - Exit 49, Pimpama, northbound off-ramp.

Benefits:

Less congestion and improved safety through reduced queuing of vehicles onto the M1 shoulder.

Funding:

$1.5 million.

Regions:
South Coast Region

Project info

Work will include:

  • provision of additional capacity on the northbound off-ramp
  • removing the lay away area near the Rifle Range Road roundabout
  • installing traffic signals (roundabout metering) at both the Yawalpah Road roundabout and Rifle Range Road roundabouts. These traffic lights will operate at peak times to help control the flow of traffic.

This project is part of the Pacific Motorway M1 Upgrade Program which is being delivered in priority stages as funding becomes available.

The department continues to progress planning for a long term upgrade of the Exit 49 interchange that will address congestion on local roads stemming from both the northbound and southbound off-ramps.

Key milestones

  • Late-September 2018: Early works commence.
  • Mid-October 2018:  Construction commences.
  • Mid-December 2018: Construction completion.
