Project info

Traffic growth on the Warrego Highway (Toowoomba – Dalby) is expected to exceed the state average, with retail, mining, gas, manufacturing and agricultural industries straining the serviceability of the highway.

This $2 million planning project investigated extending the 4 lanes of the Warrego Highway to Oakey (approximately 10km), including exploring options for staging of the works.

This planning project identified preferred highway alignments and upgrade options on the Warrego Highway from west of the Kingsthorpe-Haden Road intersection 18.7km from Toowoomba to 28.7km from Toowoomba towards Oakey.

The main benefits of this planning study were:

  • early identification of a preferred route based on objective and well-considered criteria
  • informed and detailed resource allocation well in advance of project design and construction needs.

Community info

This planning project was delivered as part of the $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program (WHUP) funded 80% by the federal government and 20% by the state government.
