Brisbane to Border—connected bicycle routes

We are planning continuous, high quality, safe bicycle routes linking Brisbane to the border. The routes are being progressively delivered through a series of major projects.

These new routes will make it easier and safer to cycle more often for local trips, as well as support bicycle tourism and events.

Veloway 1 (V1) Cycleway

The Veloway 1 cycleway connects bike riders from Brisbane City to Slacks Creek (along the Pacific Motorway). A dedicated 3m-wide cycleway extends 20km, providing a safe route for bike riders of all ages and abilities. The Veloway 1 is currently being upgraded in stages.

Pacific Motorway (M1) North

Pacific Motorway North upgrades between the Gateway Motorway and Logan Motorway are planned to provide new active transport connections from:

• Eight Mile Plains to Daisy Hill
• Daisy Hill to Logan Motorway.

Coomera Connector

The Coomera Connector is a 45km gazetted corridor that will provide an active transport corridor between the Logan Motorway and Nerang from:

• Loganholme to Coomera
• Coomera to Nerang.

Pacific Motorway (M1) South

The 10km Pacific Motorway South upgrade will provide a new dedicated active transport path, adjacent to the motorway from Varsity Lakes to Elanora.

Existing network connections

There are existing cycling connections along several parts of the Brisbane to Border corridor. These connections are mostly located parallel to the Pacific Highway (M1).

• Eight Mile Plains to Beenleigh—some existing active transport links on local routes.
• Beenleigh to Gaven—existing V1 marked cycle route on bike lanes along the Pacific Highway service roads.
• Gaven to Nerang—route follows local roads without bike lanes (this route is suited to experienced bike riders).
• Nerang to Varsity Lakes—access through local government shared path networks.
• Elanora to Tugun—access through local government shared path networks.
• East-west connections between Pacific Highway (M1) and Gold Coast—access through local government shared path networks.
• Gold Coast Oceanway—36km of shared cycle and pedestrian paths along the Gold Coast's coastline.
