Funding sources

To create more walkable communities, local governments may draw upon their own funding sources, or apply for Queensland or Australian Government grants. The following funding sources may assist local governments to plan, design, construct and maintain walking infrastructure:

Local Government funding streams

• Transport infrastructure programs – design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation and road safety
• Sport and recreation programs 
• Councillor discretionary funds 
• Development assessment conditions 
• Local Government Infrastructure Plans (LGIPs) 
• As part of adjacent road projects.
