Assistance schemes
In Queensland it is compulsory for children to attend school at certain stages of their life. The Queensland Government provides educational facilities throughout the state. In areas where it is not feasible for the government to provide these facilities, assistance with school transport costs is provided under the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS). Operators contracted by the Queensland Government can find information in the School Transport Assistance Scheme Operator payments (PDF, 518 KB).
In addition to assisting students with school transport costs, the Queensland Government provides funding to eligible school bus operators to assist with the purchase of buses that are less than 5 years old. Each year, the department invites operators to apply for financial assistance under the School Bus Upgrade Scheme (SchoolBUS). The objective of the scheme is to accelerate the introduction of rollover-compliant buses into the Queensland school bus fleet.
More information on these assistance schemes is available by using the links on the left hand side of the screen. Alternatively, contact your nearest school transport office.
