Heavy vehicle safety working group

The Road Freight Industry Council (RFIC) is identified as a peak government body and as such is an instrument of change. One objective of the RFIC is to promote industry safety and in accordance with this objective, the RFIC Heavy Vehicle Safety Working Group was established to lead the development of initiatives to improve heavy vehicle safety.

Purpose of the RFIC Heavy Vehicle Safety Working Group

  • To provide leadership within the transport industry in relation to promoting and identifying heavy vehicle safety initiatives and provide high level advice to the RFIC on strategies to improve heavy vehicle safety.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Action Plan priorities. 
  • To identify existing and potential road safety issues relating to heavy vehicles and to address these by developing actions and plans to take to the RFIC.
  • Actively promote and assist with managing the introduction of safety improvement changes to the heavy vehicle fleet.

Heavy Vehicle Safety Bulletin

Queensland heavy vehicle road toll

Road crash data is maintained by the department to provide statistics for accurate and timely analysis of road safety programs and for the development of new, effective road safety initiatives. Weekly road toll reports and annual road traffic crash reports are available on the Road Safety Statistics page.
