Queensland Road Safety Technical User Volumes (QRSTUV)

The Queensland Road Safety Technical User Volumes manual is issued under the authority of Section 166 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995. The contents of the manual are issued as 'approved notices' under Section 166 (2) of said Act.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has aligned our technical guidance for road safety in Queensland to the new Australian Standard AS1742 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Austroads Guide to Road Safety (AGRS).

This alignment involves:

The AGRS is a 7 part document that provides predominately high level knowledge about road safety. For guidance for practitioners, specific guidance has been created, which is linked to the Queensland MUTCD and QGRS documents, which sits in the Queensland Road Safety Technical User Volumes (QRSTUV). A separate guidance volume will be created for each topic, with the initial documents being the:

  • Queensland Road Safety Technical User Volumes (QRSTUV): Guide to Schools, and
  • Queensland Road Safety Technical User Volumes (QRSTUV): Guide to Speed Management.

The harmonised Queensland MUTCD and QGRS will adopt specifications contained within the AS1742 and AGRS respectively. The Queensland MUTCD and QGRS will only detail variances to the AS1742 and AGRS for use in Queensland.

This change has resulted in the restructuring of our road safety documents to align with the content of AS1742, AGRS and additional guidance in the QRSTUV. A summary of the documents relevant to road safety practice in Queensland, and their linkages, is provided in each of the documents.
