The Department of Transport and Main Roads has the following air transport responsibilities:
  • administering the contracted air services network throughout western and northern Queensland
  • input into airport master planning
  • protecting state interests within local planning schemes in relation to strategic airports and aviation facilities through the State Planning Policy (SPP)
  • representing the state on the Commonwealth Government's National Airports Safeguarding Advisory Group.
