Southern Sunshine Coast Roads Improvement Study
A study is underway to identify and prioritise road network connectivity and safety improvements to increase road capacity within the growing southern Sunshine Coast area.
Options to improve safety and reduce congestion are being investigated at the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Arterial Road intersection in Caloundra.
Planning will determine options for a staged upgrade. An initial upgrade will reduce congestion and improve travel times and safety at the existing intersection. A longer-term upgrade will address future traffic demands. The initial upgrade will be compatible with the longer-term solution. The business case forms part of the Southern Sunshine Coast Roads Improvement Study.
This intersection connects Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Arterial Road, which are part of the future north-south, intra-regional motorway connecting the Sunshine Motorway to the Bruce Highway at Roys Road interchange.
Design and construction of the project will be subject to future funding availability in consideration of competing priorities across the state.
The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments as part of the Southern Sunshine Coast Roads Improvement Study.
We are developing a business case, conducting technical investigations, and have carefully evaluated over 700 feedback submissions gathered from community consultations held in November 2021 and between 31 January and 16 February 2023.
