RoadTek trainees
RoadTek, a commercial arm of TMR, provides development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through initiatives including:
- upskilling apprentices and trainees to attain their Certificate 3 in Civil Construction
- enabling trainees to participate in on-site training in plant and machinery including competency assessment processes
- supporting and empowering First Nations employees to progress through the RoadTek Civil Trades Development Program.
The trainees gain on-the-job experience across Queensland with many going on to obtain permanent roles in RoadTek.

SEQ Indigenous Trainee Program (2018–19)
RoadTek has an extensive history of providing employment opportunities to youth across Queensland. In 2018, as part of our wider commitment to the Commonwealth Games Reconciliation Action Plan, RoadkTek launched the Indigenous Trainee Program across the South East Queensland Operations Centres.
Eight young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders graduated from the 2018 South East Queensland Indigenous trainees program
Nine trainees, aged 17-24, took part in the 12 month program where they were hosted in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Downs South West to complete a Certificate 2 in Civil Construction. The program provides on-the-job training and experience for the trainees new to the construction industry.
The program was a resounding success, with all trainees completing their qualification in early 2019, and 7 continued their respective civil construction careers with RoadTek.
