Moreton Bay Rail Link cultural heritage protection
In delivering the 12.6km dual-railway line between Petrie and Kippa-Ring, significant works were required on a range of sensitive environments, including freshwater and estuarine watercourses, remnant vegetation, koala habitat and wetlands.

TMR engaged with the Turrbal and Gubbi Gubbi Peoples who had connection to the country where the project was being undertaken. Between 2012 and 2016, Traditional Owners were extensively involved in monitoring vegetation clearing and grubbing, earthworks and other significant works to ensure cultural heritage sites were identified and appropriately respected.
A significant cultural heritage discovery during the project, a 2,000m² shell midden, was managed in close consultation with the Gubbi Gubbi People, including excavations and analysis by an archaeologist. We have installed an interpretive sign about the midden to assist in public education and awareness.
