Student support programs

Career Trackers

In 2014, our department, with Parsons Brinckerhoff, engaged Career Trackers, a national not-for-profit Indigenous student support and mentoring organisation, to provide experience working on the New Generation Rollingstock maintenance centre at Wulkuraka, Ipswich. Two engineering students worked in Parsons Brinckerhoff's office for 4 weeks during their 2014 university holidays.

School based traineeships

We offer school-based traineeships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are currently in years 10, 11 and 12 to allow them to work for us and train towards a recognised qualification, while completing their secondary schooling.

The program offers a 2-year traineeship, with the students working for us 1 day per week while completing an eligible and relevant qualification. It gives students the opportunity to put skills learned through their schooling and qualification into practice in a real work environment, helping them to develop skills, knowledge and confidence.
