Birdsville Developmental Road (Morney - Birdsville), pave and seal
More than 5km of the Birdsville Developmental Road has been sealed to improve safety, efficiency and wet weather access for all road users.
The department is sealing another 5km of the road to improve safety, efficiency and wet weather access for all road users.
The Birdsville Developmental Road links Birdsville and Windorah with markets in major centres across Australia. It plays a crucial role in the freight and agriculture sectors and supports outback tourism by providing access to far western Queensland.
This section of road experiences large increases in traffic in the lead up to major regional events such as the Birdsville Big Red Bash and the Birdsville Races.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments on an 80:20 basis under tranche 2 of the Road Safety Program.
Construction started in September 2021 with completion expected in April 2022. Local road crews from Barcoo Shire Council are delivering the works.
