Bruce Highway—St Lawrence overtaking lanes

We have built 3 new overtaking lanes on the Bruce Highway between St Lawrence and Mackay near Kalarka Road, Mosquito Creek and Carmila.

These works are a part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program (BHUP), a 15-year program of works jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to improve the safety, flood resilience and capacity of the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Cairns. Although being delivered under the BHUP, these overtaking lanes are fully funded by the Australian Government.

Current status

The project has delivered southbound overtaking lanes at Kalarka Road and south of Carmila, and 1 northbound overtaking lane near Mosquito Creek. The works involved widening, drainage works and rehabilitation of the existing road.

The overtaking lanes were constructed simultaneously, reducing the overall duration of the project and minimising impacts to road users.

The construction of the rest area at Clairview has commenced and will be completed by late 2020.
