Burke Developmental Road (Normanton - Dimbulah), progressive sealing

Work is underway to progressively seal unsealed sections of the Burke Developmental Road between Almaden and Chillagoe.

Sealing will improve resilience, reliability and productivity as well as reduce travel times along this section of the Burke Developmental Road. It will also improve safety by providing adequate seal width for overtaking and passing vehicles, leading to better visibility and less dust.

Funding

The Queensland Government initially committed $5.8 million for sealing works with an additional $9 million committed as part of the Queensland Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs. Investment ID 1442454 and 1619431

Additional funding of $7 million has been made available under the Australian Government's Road Safety Program to expand the scope of this project. The Road Safety Program is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government on an 80:20 (federal:state) basis.
