Burnett Highway—Three Moon Creek Bridge replacement

We are replacing the existing Three Moon Creek timber bridge on the Burnett Highway with a higher, wider, longer and stronger concrete bridge.

The Three Moon Creek Bridge is a 62-year-old, 2-lane timber bridge on the Burnett Highway, north of Eidsvold.

The bridge requires regular maintenance to keep it in a safe and trafficable condition. The bridge currently has low flood immunity and can cause the closure of the Burnett Highway during flood events, requiring motorists to make a lengthy detour.

The new stronger and wider concrete Three Moon Creek Bridge will be safer, more reliable, better suited to the vehicle types and volumes currently using it and will require less ongoing maintenance.

The new bridge will be higher than the old bridge, providing improved flood immunity. This will reduce the likelihood of closures of the Burnett Highway during the wet season.

Current status

A sidetrack will be constructed to the west of the existing bridge to keep the community connected during construction.

Construction of the new bridge will begin once the sidetrack is open and the new bridge is expected to be open to motorists by late 2021, weather permitting.

The bridge upgrade will be programmed and delivered in a way that minimises impacts to motorists. Up-to-date information about short-term traffic disruptions associated with the works will be available from the QLDTraffic website.
