Dawson Developmental Road (Springsure - Tambo), Barcoo River, replace timber bridge
Works are underway to replace the existing Barcoo River Bridge with a wider, higher, modern concrete structure.
The existing bridge is a narrow timber structure that is over 70 years old. It is located on Dawson Developmental Road which links Springsure with Tambo and is an important gateway between the agriculture and resource sectors, cities, markets and ports.
The low capacity of the bridge limits its use by freight and excess mass and dimension vehicles, including road trains. When the bridge and supporting road network is inaccessible either because of load restrictions, or flooding, a 185km detour is needed.
This project will replace the current bridge with a wider, higher, modern concrete structure. It will also widen and upgrade the road approaches and deliver additional drainage works.
