Flinders Highway (Townsville – Charters Towers), Townsville to Mingela Range (Package 1 and 2), construct overtaking lanes
The Flinders Highway (Townsville to Charters Towers) overtaking lane project delivered 3 new overtaking opportunities to improve safety for motorists.
New dual-direction overtaking lanes (both eastbound and westbound) have been provided about 27km outside of Townsville, while an eastbound overtaking lane has been constructed to complement an existing westbound overtaking lane about 67km outside of Townsville.
These new overtaking opportunities will allow vehicles to safely pass slow-moving vehicles on this 110km/h section of highway.
The new overtaking lanes have been constructed on a separated carriageway to improve safety.
In order to accommodate the overtaking lanes and widened pavement, the culverts under the Flinders Highway have been widened.
