Accelerated funding has been allocated through the following Road Stimulus Packages to increase investment in roads and transport infrastructure as part of The Queensland Economic Recovery Strategy.
Peak Downs Highway (Nebo–Mackay): Eton to Mackay, targeted road safety improvements
Safety upgrades are being delivered on the Peak Downs Highway as part of the Targeted Road Safety Works Program.
This includes widening sections of the existing highway, upgrading intersections as well as addressing roadside hazards to improve the safety of this section of highway between Eton and Mackay.
The highway is the principal freight corridor supplying the coal mines of northern Bowen Basin. The route carries significant volumes of freight, including oversize and over-mass vehicles carrying large mining equipment, as well as local and commuter traffic, including drive-in, drive-out mining workers from Mackay, Moranbah and Emerald.
The project is widening sections of the Peak Downs Highway, between Drapers Siding and Old Rocky Waterholes Road, to a 12m seal width, and is providing wide centre line treatment, audio tactile line marking and sealed shoulders.
This project is being delivered as part of the Roads Infrastructure Stimulus Package.
