Tallebudgera Connection Road Koala Zone Trial

The department values the protection of native fauna and supports koala protection treatments and initiatives to help mitigate koala-vehicle collisions.

Tallebudgera Connection Road is recognised as a high-risk road for koala-vehicle collisions.

In response to public concern over koala safety, we are trialling new signage and speed reduction measures on this road, between July 2023 and January 2024 (coinciding with the next koala breeding season).

The trial will involve the establishment of a dedicated Koala Zone, the monitoring of vehicle speeds within the zone and an assessment of the effectiveness of speed reduction measures.

The Koala Zone Trial will be on a 3km (approximately) section of Tallebudgera Connection Road from Valley Drive to Currumbin Creek Road.

The aim of the trial is to reduce the speed of vehicles when and where koalas are most likely to be moving around the road.

The community is invited to provide feedback on the trial.
