Local Thriving Communities

Local Thriving Communities is a Queensland Government long-term reform to embed change, resulting in a different way of working alongside communities to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. It aims to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities a greater voice in shaping their future.

The Queensland Government is working with the state's 19 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to establish greater decision-making authority in service delivery and economic development. Independent decision-making bodies will provide a representative voice for engaging the Queensland Government to:

  • make decisions about their future
  • build on their strengths as a community
  • invest in things that will make communities stronger and make a difference to people's lives
  • create thriving communities.

We support this reform and seek advice from each community about how decisions should be made for their unique needs. We will work with the local decision-making bodies established through this reform to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to shape future transport decisions impacting their communities.
