Road safety

Road safety continues to be one of the nation's most serious public health issues – it affects everyone, whether you drive, walk or cycle.

We all need to know how to take care of ourselves and respect others on the road. That's why the Department of Transport and Main Roads encourages everyone to get actively involved in road safety.

Notices

Drivers should allow adequate time to ensure their vehicle is safe.

Before embarking on any road trip, please:

  • check your tyres for pressure and their overall condition
  • have your brakes checked regularly by your mechanic
  • have your steering and suspension checked by your mechanic
  • check your lights – make sure that your brake lights are working
  • ensure your windscreen is clean and free of chips and cracks.

Transport Inspectors will be checking all vehicles to ensure safety on Queensland’s roads.

Ensure your vehicle is safe and has no defects.

For more information on whom Transport Inspectors are and what they do, view or print the Transport Inspector fact sheet and the Transport Inspector and Road Closures fact sheet.
