Respecting your privacy
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is committed to protecting your privacy. We are bound by the Information Privacy Act 2009 (the IP Act) which regulates the way in which Queensland government agencies must manage personal information. It addresses concerns about any unauthorised use of this information and gives individuals a right of access to personal information held about them.
Personal information means any information about an identifiable living person.
Personal information is defined in s12 of the IP Act as:
Personal information means information or an opinion about an identified individual or an individual who is reasonably identifiable from the information or opinion:
- whether the information or opinion is true or not
- whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not.
Our Privacy Policy takes into consideration the diverse range of activities and functions of the department and provides an overview of how we achieve compliance with the IP Act.
It explains how you may request access to and/or correction of your personal information and how you can make a privacy complaint if you consider we have breached our obligations to manage your personal information in accordance with the Queensland Privacy Principles.
When you use online services
Our websites provide access to a wide range of online services. These include services enabling you to:
- change your address and other details
- access and manage information about your licences, registrations, authorisations, fines and infringements
- participate in surveys or other consultation and engagement activities
- interact with us via a Transport and Main Roads or Queensland Government (QGov) account.
When you use these online services, we will collect personal information about your use of the services and any information you provide as part of using the online services. We will use and disclose that information for the purposes:
- of providing these services to you
- identified in any terms or privacy notices specific to that service
- and activities permitted by the IP Act and other applicable legislation
Your information will not be disclosed to any other third party without your consent, unless required or authorised by law.
For example: if you notify us of a change of address and/or e-contact details, this information will change the addresses recorded in the Transport Registration and Integrated Licensing System for your Queensland driver licence, marine licence, industry authority, adult proof of age card and/or vehicles or vessels registered in Queensland. All information recorded in the Transport Registration and Integrated Licensing System will be accessible by other entities as authorised by law, including the Queensland Police Service.

Licensing
The Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) collects the information on this form in conjunction with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), so that you may apply for, replace or renew a Queensland licence or product, or complete a transaction. The information you provide will be used to maintain the licensing register and to contact you, where required. The collection of this information is required by section 169 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 and section 126 of the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Regulation 2016. Without this information we are unable to conduct licensing transactions. We usually share the information you provide to interstate licensing authorities and law enforcement agencies. We will not otherwise disclose this information to a third party without your agreement, except in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009. Registration
The Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) collects the information on this form in conjunction with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), for the purpose of administering registration products. The information you provide will be used to maintain the vehicle and vessel register and to contact you, where required. The collection of this information is authorised by section 193 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2021 and section 26 of the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Regulation 2016. Without this information CDSB is unable to register your vehicle or vessel. We usually share the information you provide to interstate licensing and registering authorities, vehicle insurers, law enforcement agencies and tolling authorities. We will not otherwise disclose this information to a third party without your agreement, except in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009. Mobile applications
Any personal information that is collected or provided via a software application (App) will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the IP Act and any terms or privacy notices specific to that App.
Where relevant, we may record information about your use of the App. This information may include:
- the random, auto-generated user account number created when the App is first launched and associated with your device
- when and how you use the App
- the pages you access, and the types of functions you use.
More specific information concerning some of our apps is set out below.
Learner Logbook app
The QLD Learner Logbook app requires permission to access certain device settings to function. The permissions are displayed in the App Store and Google Play Store, and when you download and install the app .
Location: By enabling location, you consent to the app storing and syncing location data to populate the start and end points when using the app to add a trip.
If you choose not to accept any of the permissions, some features of the app may not work.
Emails and mobile phone/SMS device numbers
If you choose to supply an email address and/or mobile phone/SMS device number, you also consent to the use of that information for the following purposes:
- issuing you with an online access code when you request it
- responding to your enquiries
- processing your transaction
- sending you information, notices, reminders or updates on our products and services.
Email correspondence sent to this site will be managed in accordance with the Public Records Act 2002.
Email messages may be monitored by our web team for system troubleshooting and maintenance purposes.
Third party login providers
If you use a third party for your login to a Transport and Main Roads online service or App, the third party will have its own terms and conditions and privacy obligations for their logins. For information on these terms and conditions and privacy obligations, use the following links.

What is a data breach?
We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of the personal information we hold. Our Data Breach Policy outlines our approach to identifying, managing, and responding to data breaches in compliance with the IP Act and its mandatory notification of a data breach scheme for eligible data breaches.
Privacy Complaints
If you believe that we have not dealt with your personal information in a way that is consistent with our obligations under the IP Act, you may submit a privacy complaint.
