The Department of Transport and Main Roads develops efficient, sustainable and flexible transport services by assisting local government-owned transport operators, private bus and ferry operators, taxi and limousine companies and regional air operators. The Department of Transport and Main Roads also removes the barriers to access and mobility, and encourages smarter travel choices.
- Community Based Transport
There are individuals in every community for whom the private motor vehicle and mainstream public transport are not suitable or available. The Community Based Transport Guidelines and Toolbox are specifically designed to assist local governments in assessing community transport needs.
- Hinterland Connect bus service (between Maleny and Nambour)
Hinterland Connect is currently jointly funded by the Queensland Government, through TransLink, in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council.
- Long distance coaches
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (then Queensland Transport) initiated a scheme in 2002 to financially support long distance coach services in rural and remote Queensland. These scheduled coach operations give people living in rural and remote communities access to essential services, such medical, educational, social, and dental, at larger population centres.

- Queensland public transport concessions
The Queensland Government offers concessions and discounts for the use of public transport that ensure a suitable level of access and mobility for many people who would otherwise be disadvantaged.
- Security cameras on Queensland buses
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has recently funded the supply and installation of closed circuit television systems in approximately 120 buses that are used to provide general route services for service contract areas or routes in regional Queensland. The primary purpose of the system is to address safety and security issues.

- Accessible bus stops in regional Queensland
All public transport services, including associated vehicles and infrastructure, are subject to the Commonwealth Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (the standards). Bus stops built from 2002 must comply with the standards.

The Disability Action Plan – Achieving Accessible Public Transport in Queensland outlines strategies that will result in greater levels of accessibility for people with disabilities using public transport.

- Person with a Vision Impairment Travel Pass
The Person with a Vision Impairment Travel Pass entitles holders to free travel on all participating urban public transport services including, bus, rail and ferry within Australia. Free travel is specifically for the pass holder only, and does not include any other arrangements that might be in place in individual states or territories, such as free travel for carers or attendants.
