Building Information Modelling

The Queensland State Government has set a direction for Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation in successive State Infrastructure Strategy documents to enable "digital by default", including the implementation of BIM progressively into all major state infrastructure projects.

The BIM for Transport and Main Roads guideline provides an overview of the department's plan for the implementation of BIM processes and methodology in the delivery of road infrastructure projects.

The department's implementation strategy is a four pronged approach focusing on understanding the asset requirements the department needs to capture, developing the underpinning BIM documentation and standards, internal and external capability development aligned to the BIM documentation, and supported by robust ICT software applications all working together in a Common Data Environment (CDE).

BIM for Bridges

The bridge BIM model shall encompass the structural design of the bridge asset, in a complete three dimensional (3D) electronic model. The model is progressively developed through the asset's lifecycle. It includes project attributes, and is suitable for construction coordination and field set out.

The BIM for Bridges Manual provides guidance to any entity engaged in the design development, construction and presentation of
as constructed information of departmental bridges.

Transport and Main Roads Object Attributes for Bridges

To align with the requirements of the BIM for Bridges Manual, the Transport and Main Roads object attributes for bridges provide definition for attribute requirements of Transport and Main Roads Bridges. Attribute definitions have been provided for all phases of the Bridge BIM lifecycle.
