Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway upgrades

The Queensland Government has completed integrated planning for the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway Upgrades in north Brisbane and the Moreton Bay Region.

Each day, around 160,000 vehicles travel between the Moreton Bay Region and north Brisbane on the Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway and Gympie Arterial Road.

Significant population growth is increasing travel demand through this road corridor, with current traffic levels expected to increase by around 50% by 2041.

The following upgrades were recommended as part of integrated planning:

Gateway Motorway, Bracken Ridge to Pine River upgrade
- Upgrading the Gateway Motorway from Bracken Ridge to Pine River.
- Future stage: Reconfiguring the existing Gateway Motorway from 6 to 8 lanes between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge.
Bruce Highway, Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Road upgrade (Stage 1)
- Upgrading Bruce Highway at the interchange with Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road, south of the Pine River.
- Future stage: Upgrading Gympie Arterial Road between Strathpine Road and Gateway Motorway.
Bruce Highway, Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Road upgrade (Stage 2)
- Installing collector-distributor roads on either side of the Bruce Highway from the Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road interchange, through to Dohles Rocks Road, including two new bridges across the Pine River.
Bruce Highway, Dohles Rocks Road to Anzac Avenue
- Stage 1: Delivering extended north-facing ramps on the Bruce Highway from Dohles Rocks Road to Anzac Avenue.
- Future stages: Upgrading the Bruce Highway from Dohles Rocks Road to Anzac Avenue and upgrading the Anzac Avenue interchange.

Community impacts

The department recognises these upgrades will create changes in the local areas and we are committed to minimising these as much as possible as planning progresses.

Property

Property acquisition is required to deliver the upgrades. We are engaging with impacted property owners.

Environmental management

There will be impacts on some surrounding wetlands and park areas. We are working to minimise these impacts as much as practically possible.

Noise

Potential changes to road traffic noise from the upgrades is being considered as the upgrades progress. This will include identifying possible noise treatment such as noise barriers.
