Running an event

TMR is responsible for managing organised events on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

All Commercial events where a business or organisation charges money or obtains a financial benefit from supplying goods and services (for example, guided or organised tours or fundraisers) must apply for a permit regardless of event size.

A permit is required for all other events or organised groups (such as school events, church groups or nature study groups) if the event involves 30 or more participants. Recognising that larger groups may significantly impact or conflict with other events or the local community is crucial, necessitating early stakeholder notification and risk management plans.

Apply for an event permit

To apply for your permit, complete an application form - Application to hold an organised event on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) form F5259 (PDF) and submit it for assessment of your proposed event. Once all the required information is received, we will assess your application and consult with any organisations which may be affected, such as local council/s, community groups or any other Queensland Government agencies involved with the management of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

Before submitting your application, it is important that you read:

Submit your application by emailing [email protected] or by post at:

Department of Transport and Main Roads
C/- Rail Corridor Management
GPO Box 1412
BRISBANE QLD 4001

Please allow at least 4 weeks to process your permit application.

Whether you're attending an event or travelling on your own adventure, make sure you plan accommodation, bike hire and shuttle services well in advance to avoid disappointment. You can seek general advice from the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Ranger or any local businesses that offer shuttle services, tours, or bike hire.
