Traffic management training
From 1 October 2019, there will be changes to the Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Renewal Program. Please contact one of the approved training providers for further information.
To deliver effective traffic management on our roads, the department specifies a number of targeted training courses. All of these training courses are undertaken by licensed Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). If you are interested in attending training please visit our approved training providers page.
The department has recently updated these training courses to improve the quality and consistency of traffic management at road work sites, and minimise impacts to drivers while maintaining safe working environments for all road work staff.

Course descriptions
Traffic Control
Aimed at persons requiring departmental accreditation to control traffic in accordance with the procedures set out in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices Part 3 (MUTCD) and the Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme.
Traffic Management Implementation (formerly referred to as Level 2 Traffic Management)
Aimed at persons required to read, interpret, and implement traffic management plans and install/remove signs and devices in accordance with procedures set out in MUTCD Part 3.
Traffic Management Design (replacing previous Level 3 Traffic Management)
Aimed at persons required to design/develop Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes in accordance with procedures set out in MUTCD Part 3.

Working in Proximity to Traffic
The new eLearning program Working in Proximity to Traffic has been released as part of the department's drive to improve safety.
This program is broken into two online programs:
- Working in Proximity to Traffic - Awareness Part 1
For new entrants to the construction and traffic management industry or anyone who is required to participate in and/or carry out short term low impact work activities on or near the roadway or in proximity to traffic.
- Working in Proximity to Traffic - Awareness Part 2 Works Protection Methods
For workers who carry out short term, low impact works on or near roads and need to select and apply appropriate works protection methods in accordance with MUTCD Part 3.
These programs replace former face-to-face training program - Level 1 Traffic Management training, and have been piloted with industry to ensure they meet current needs.

You can search, enrol and pay for technical training and events online using the department's learning management system, Accelerate. Accelerate also allows you to view a complete calendar of upcoming training and events via its interactive calendar.
