Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarships
Our scholarships provide financial support to eligible students pursuing an undergraduate degree or diploma in Engineering or related fields.
We believe that financial assistance is essential for increasing participation and fostering success for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in their employment pathways.
This scholarship can help cover various study expenses, including course fees, textbooks, study materials, tools, equipment, accommodation, and travel costs. We are committed to empowering students on their journey toward a successful career in engineering.
What we offer
The scholarship will provide you financial assistance of up to $6,000 per year. This will be pro-rata for part time students.
This scholarship provides students with the chance to apply their academic skills in a real-world setting. Students will engage in paid practical work placements lasting at least 30 days per year, collaborating with experts in their field. Our department is well-positioned to facilitate local employment opportunities based on Country.
Upon completion of the scholarship, successful candidates will gain valuable career pathway options, including the chance to join our graduate program.

Program requirements:
- 30 days a year working on site
- the location is not expected to change during your time on the scholarship
- travel to and accommodation during the paid employment is at your own expense.
Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be:
- an Australian Citizen
- an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is one who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and either:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
- is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which they live.
- enrolled full-time or part-time at an Australian tertiary institution in an undergraduate degree or diploma course and have completed at least one semester of study
- enrolled in an Engineering or an Engineering or Science related qualification that supports the transport infrastructure industry
- able to work at least 30 days paid employment with us (per year or every year on the program).
After completing your scholarship
Your time with us doesn’t have to end after your scholarship. Once you have finished your scholarship you can apply for a graduate position with us.
