School Crossing Supervisor Scheme

About the Scheme

The School Crossing Supervisor Scheme was established in 1984 and is a state-wide program introduced to reduce the risk of death and injuries to children attending schools. A school crossing supervisor’s role is to assist children in safely crossing roads on their way to and from school.

Role of the School Crossing Supervisors

About the role:
  • School Crossing Supervisors must be available to work both morning and afternoon shifts (on the same day) in all weather conditions
  • crossing times vary at each school, with shifts up to one hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon (school terms only)
  • rostered shifts will vary at each school
  • additional adhoc work opportunities may be offered
  • generous casual pay rate
  • the minimum age for employment as a School Crossing Supervisors is 18 years of age.

Commencement of employment for the successful applicant is dependent on:

  • the favourable outcome of a pre-employment health assessment
  • a positive notice Blue Card (you do not need to have a blue card to apply for the position).

Please note: The department pays for both the Health Assessment and the Blue card.

How to become a School Crossing Supervisor

To apply to become a School Crossing Supervisor, please complete our online expression of interest form.

Once you submit the form, a member of the Road Safety team will be in contact within three business days. Alternatively, please contact your local road safety office to request a hard copy form.

How to request a new supervised school crossing

Schools that are eligible for a funded School Crossing Supervisor through the department are encouraged to contact one of our regional Road Safety Office to commence the application and assessment process.
