Simple indexation for school bus services under the School Transport Assistance Scheme
The Queensland Government provides transport assistance to help students travel to and from school under the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS). Simple indexation for school bus services under STAS outlines:
- the policy and process to calculate simple indexation
- how it is applied for kilometre-based and fares-based service contracts and agreements under the scheme.
Important notice to school transport operators—changes to child restraints
The important notice to school transport operators information statement is provided to clarify the requirements for school transport operators under the Queensland road rules and the Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses.
Information for conveyance committees
The Department of Transport and Main Roads enters into contracts with bus operators to provide individual kilometre-based school bus services. These services are funded by the Queensland Government through the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS) and are administered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Parents/guardians of distance eligible students travelling on an individual kilometre-based school bus service may form a conveyance committee to assist the operator with administration of the service. Conveyance committees are not mandatory.
The conveyance committee information booklet contains details to assist conveyance committees (where applicable) in their role.
Subsidised school bus services
Across the state, kilometre-based school bus services are provided to transport eligible school students to and from school. Normally these services are fully government funded. A small number of services, however, operate on the basis of only partial funding of the service by the government. The policy on the introduction and administration of subsidised school bus services provides further information on these types of services.
