Pedestrians and walking

We are preparing a Queensland Walking Strategy, which will promote walking as an accessible, active transport mode across the state.

Each time you walk you help reduce air pollution, wear and tear on our roads and lessen the burden on public transport.

People walk, jog, inline skate (rollerblade), skateboard, ride scooters and bicycles, push prams, use wheelchairs and walk their dog on shared paths.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads makes provision for pedestrians on state-controlled roads.

For information on walking programs and groups in your local area, contact your local council, which may also be able to provide you with suitable maps.
