Limousine licences
We no longer issue new limousine licences. If you hold an existing limousine licence, you may continue to lease and transfer it.
Limousine services
Only licensed limousines can advertise as a limousine service.
Limousines may display distinctive number plates and access priority lanes under the Queensland Road Rules.
They also have an exemption under the Liquor Act 1992 to allow the service of alcohol.
Limousine vehicles
Limousines may have any number of seats in the vehicle.
Replacement vehicles
If you replaced the vehicle on your limousine licence from 1 October 2017, the replacement vehicle must:
- be a passenger vehicle
- have a wheelbase of at least 2.8m or be at least 30 years old.
Vehicles used to provide limousine services must have the correct purpose of use (POU), compulsory third party (CTP) insurance and number plates. Refer to the table below.
Licence type | Vehicle type | POU | CTP* | Plates |
Limousine | Passenger vehicle – cars and station wagons | Limousine | Class 26 | Limousine L + 5 digits |
Limousine | Minibus and omnibus with 9 or more seats, includes stretch limousines | Limousine | Class 10A or 11 | Limousine L + 5 digits |
* Vehicles may have CTP insurance for a class of motor vehicle that attracts a higher premium. You must select the correct CTP insurance class for the service you're providing or your vehicle.
Replacing or amending vehicles on your limousine licence
For more information on how to replace or amend the vehicle attached to your limousine licence, read how to add or change the vehicles on your limousine licence.
Standing areas
A limousine operator can agree on standing areas with the owner of the infrastructure, for example, the owner of a hotel, but we no longer regulate these areas.
