Project story: Wide Bay Burnett Regional Roads and Transport Group – Traffic Management Implementation training
Submitted by Sharlette Calvert on Behalf of Allen Christensen – Technical Support Engineer for Wide Bay Burnett RRTG.
During the 2024–25 financial year, the Wide Bay Burnett RRTG continued its commitment to capability development with the successful delivery of Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Training. WARP Training Australia facilitated the two-day course which combined theory learning and practical, on-site components hosted in Murgon by the South Burnett Regional Council. The training equipped council and contractor staff with nationally accredited skills to safely implement traffic guidance schemes on urban and low-volume rural roads.
Participants gained essential knowledge in setting out, monitoring, and closing traffic management plans - skills critical to maintaining safety and efficiency on Queensland’s rural road network.
Roadworks in rural areas significantly affect local communities. By delivering training locally in Murgon, the program allowed participants to learn effective traffic management to minimise disruption and maintain access to critical rural roads. Facilitators were able to address region specific challenges, making the content more relevant and immediately applicable. Due to the location of the training being more accessible, more participants were able to attend.
TMI Training ensures a more capable, confident workforce ready to implement best-practice traffic management, contributing to safer worksites and smoother journeys for all road users. The training also strengthens the region’s ability to deliver infrastructure projects efficiently and promotes collaboration and shared understanding which improves coordination on future projects.
