Funding sources
To create more walkable communities, local governments may draw upon their own funding sources, or apply for Queensland or Australian Government grants. The following funding sources may assist local governments to plan, design, construct and maintain walking infrastructure:
Local Government funding streams
- Transport infrastructure programs – design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation and road safety
- Sport and recreation programs
- Councillor discretionary funds
- Development assessment conditions
- Local Government Infrastructure Plans (LGIPs)
- As part of adjacent road projects.
Queensland Government grants
- Walking Local Government Grants
- Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS)
- School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP)
- Public Transport Infrastructure Grants
- Queensland Disaster Funding
- Building our Regions
- Works for Queensland Program
- Cycle Network Local Government Grants (CNLGG).
Australian Government grants
- Road Safety Program
- Black Spot Program (state managed)
- Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program
- Roads to Recovery Program
- Disaster Recovery Funding.
