Mooloolaba to Maroochydore cycleway


The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) are partnering to deliver the Mooloolaba to Maroochydore cycleway (M2M cycleway), a high quality active transport corridor for the Sunshine Coast that connects these key suburban hubs.

The M2M cycleway will deliver a number of benefits including:

  • increased cycling trips
  • increased safety for bike riders, pedestrians and road users
  • improved health and lifestyle for the local community
  • reduced parking demand
  • reduced traffic demand
  • increased road safety
  • increased tourism opportunities.


The Queensland Government has allocated $6.7 million for the detailed design and delivery of a 1.2km section of the project on Alexandra Parade from Sixth Avenue, Maroochydore to Mary Street, Alexandra Headland (Stage 6).

The M2M cycleway will be constructed in stages as more funding becomes available.

Project info

The M2M cycleway will be delivered in 7 stages with the project map showing the progress of each stage.

Construction completed

Stage 2 – Amarina Avenue, Mooloolaba, to Foote Street, Mooloolaba (completed between 2012 and 2018 as part of the Minyama to Mooloolaba cycleway project).

Planning underway

  • Stage 1 – Mooloolah River, Mooloolaba, to Amarina Avenue, Mooloolaba
  • Stage 3 – Foote Street, Mooloolaba, to the Mooloolaba Foreshore Precinct
  • Stage 4 – Mooloolaba Foreshore Precinct, to Venning Street, Mooloolaba
  • Stage 5 – Venning Street, Mooloolaba, to Mary Street, Alexandra Headland
  • Stage 6 – Mary Street, Alexandra Headland, to Sixth Avenue, Maroochydore
  • Stage 7 – Maroubra Street, Maroochydore, to Maud Street, Maroochydore.

TMR and SCC is inviting feedback from the community to inform planning for the M2M cycleway.

Feedback is open from Monday 9 September to Friday 4 October 2019 and can be provided in a variety of ways detailed below.

Community pop-up sessions

Attend a community pop-up session to speak with project team members at the following times and locations:
  • Thursday 12 September 2019—3-6pm, Mooloolaba Surf Club.
  • Friday 20 September 2019—3-6pm, Buhk Park, Alexandra Headland.
  • Tuesday 24 September 2019—12-2pm, Cotton Tree Park.
  • Saturday 28 September 2019—8–10am, Buhk Park, Alexandra Headland.
