Project info

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) received the final environmental approval for the Mission Beach Clump Point boating infrastructure upgrade project from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) on 29 June 2018.

Public tenders for construction were advertised and closed on 24 October 2018. A contract for the delivery of Element One of the project was awarded to MGN Civil Pty Ltd in mid-December 2018.

Element One of the construction consists of:

  • a new detached breakwater
  • upgrade to the existing breakwater
  • boat ramp upgrade with an additional lane
  • northern car park upgrade
  • new toilet facilities in southern car park.

Element Two of the project is still under tender evaluation, with a contract expected to be awarded in early 2019.

An important part of the project delivery is the development of a detailed traffic management plan to manage all parts of the project throughout the construction period.

On-site works are planned to begin in February 2019 (weather permitting).

The Clump Point public boat ramp will be closed for public use during construction, with completion due in December 2019. Access for the small number of commercial users will be maintained throughout construction.
