Barcaldine-Aramac Road, rehabilitate and widen pavement

More than 26km of the Barcaldine-Aramac Road has been widened to improve travelling conditions.

This road is an important transport link for the cattle and agriculture industries and provides access to Townsville and other major centres in northern Queensland.

A broad program of works including 5 separate projects has been delivered, widening narrow sections of the road to a width of 8m.

During 2021, almost 20km of the road was upgraded via 3 projects.

The next 2 projects were completed in 2022 and 2023, widening about 7km of the road. 

Overall, the completion of these five projects has brought significant improvements to safety and travel times for everyone who depends on this important transport link.

Current status

All 5 projects were delivered by crews from Barcaldine Regional Council.

  1. Barcaldine-Aramac Road, rehabilitate pavement
    Works started in January 2021 and were completed in November 2021. This project widened about 6.5km of the road.

  2. Barcaldine-Aramac Road, rehabilitate and widen
    Works started in February 2021 and were completed in June 2021. This project widened 6.4km of the road.

  3. Barcaldine-Aramac Road, widen and rehabilitate
    Works started in early September 2021 and were completed in December 2021. This project widened about 6km of the road.

  4. Barcaldine-Aramac Road, widen narrow seal
    Works started in April 2022 and were completed in December 2022. This project widened 4.7km of the road.

  5. Barcaldine-Aramac Road, widen and seal
    Works started in February 2023 and were completed in May 2023. This project widened about 2.5km of the road.
