Brighton – Redcliffe Road (Hornibrook Esplanade) and Oxley Avenue (Woody Point) intersection, improve safety
Safety improvements are planned at the Hornibrook Esplanade and Oxley Avenue intersection to reduce crashes and improve access to the Woody Point foreshore.
The Queensland Government is delivering safety improvements at the intersection of Hornibrook Esplanade and Oxley Avenue, Woody Point, in response to a history of serious crashes involving drivers failing to give way.
The project includes a new signalised intersection, removes the right turn into Hornibrook Esplanade for drivers coming from Clontarf, and makes it safer and easier for people to walk and ride bikes.
These changes will make the intersection safer, reduce conflicts between vehicles travelling straight ahead and those turning, and improve access to the Woody Point foreshore.
The project is being delivered as part of the Queensland Government's Targeted Road Safety Program—Safer Roads Sooner initiative.

- Marked bike lanes to improve conditions for bike riders through on-road lanes and upgraded crossings, supporting safer active travel
- Road lighting to improve visibility for all road users (provided where required)
Funding
This project is listed in QTRIP 2026–27 to 2029–30. It is funded by the Queensland Government Targeted Road Safety Program via the Safer Roads Sooner initiative (SRS).

Current status
Detailed design is underway and is expected to be completed in late 2026, following consideration of community feedback on the proposed intersection improvements, with construction timing to be confirmed once design is complete.
