Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection upgrade
The project will deliver a dual-lane, four-leg roundabout at the Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection in Maryborough to improve safety and traffic movements.
Following a serious crash at the intersection in 2024, investigations identified a roundabout as the preferred solution to improve safety and manage interactions between local and highway traffic.
The roundabout will incorporate Showgrounds Road while maintaining a 60km/h speed limit on the Bruce Highway and preserving all access movements for the Maryborough community.
The design will be further refined during the detailed design phase while site preparation and early works progress. Major construction is expected to commence in early 2027.

Key features
During detailed design, investigations and assessments will be undertaken to confirm project requirements and identify potential risks. These include cultural heritage, environmental, geotechnical and traffic studies.
Detailed design includes consultation with key stakeholders, adjacent landowners and utility providers, preparation of detailed construction drawings, utility relocations, and development of detailed construction cost estimates.
Early works will involve vegetation clearing and site preparation ahead of major construction, which is expected to commence in early 2027.
