Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection upgrade
The Queensland Government will install a dual lane, four-leg roundabout to improve safety at the Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection at Maryborough.
The department investigated several solutions to improve safety at the Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection, following a five-vehicle, triple fatality at the intersection in 2024.
We will construct a dual lane, four-leg roundabout integrating Showgrounds Road to improve to improve safety and manage local and highway traffic flow and interactions.
The design maintains a 60km/h speed limit on the Bruce Highway at this location and all-access movements for the community of Maryborough.
The roundabout will be further refined during the detailed design phase, with construction expected to start by mid-2027.

Key features
During detailed design, we will undertake a range of investigations and assessments including cultural heritage, environmental, geotechnical and traffic studies to confirm the project requirements and identify potential risks.
It also includes consultation with key stakeholders, adjacent landowners and utility providers, preparation of detailed construction drawings, utility relocations, and the development of detailed construction cost estimates.
Current status
Detailed design investigations are underway. Construction is expected to commence by mid-2027. We will update the community prior to any works commencing.
