Overview

The following is a timeline of consultation activities that occurred and which stakeholder groups were involved.

February 2019

Project update and feedback form distributed seeking feedback on the two options under investigation (bypass and existing highway upgrade).

Feedback suggested a bypass was supported, but economic impacts on Tiaro were a significant concern. This feedback heavily influenced the consultation process and project moving forward.

November 2019

Project update distributed explaining the bypass decision and the consultation process moving forward, and inviting residents to nominate to join the Tiaro Community Working Group.

The department received 18 nominations. All nominations were accepted. Three nominees withdrew prior to commencement of meetings. The remaining working group members comprised of a mix of residents, landowners and business owners from Tiaro and surrounds, including two Bauple community members (who remain active participants).

March 2020

The Tiaro Community Working Group was formed (with two Bauple community members) and commenced meetings and workshops with TMR and Fraser Coast Regional Council to provide input into the bypass design on behalf of the community, and to develop a community plan for Tiaro.

Fraser Coast Regional Council will also be developing a Community Plan with Bauple. The Tiaro Community Plan was fast-tracked in recognition of the direct economic impact of the bypass on Tiaro, and to enable Tiaro to position itself to realise its social and economic potential in a post-bypass environment.

September 2020

Project update distributed presenting the highway alignment within the bypass corridor study area, explaining how the alignment had been selected, and advising of the next steps for the project.

Additional consultation activities

In addition to the above broad community consultation activities, the project team has met with the Tiaro Chamber of Commerce and the Bauple Progress Association, at their requests and arranged follow-up meetings with stakeholders that the Bauple community identified as preferred representatives.

The project team has also met with landowners and other key stakeholders throughout development of the project.

The project team has further meetings planned with the Bauple community in late 2022.
