Cloncurry – Dajarra Road, Malbon River and Maud A crossing upgrade
The Queensland Government is upgrading the Malbon River and Maud A crossings on Cloncurry – Dajarra Road to improve flood resilience, safety, and travel reliability for all road users.
Works at the Malbon River floodway will replace the existing single-lane structure, which is being constructed downstream of the existing crossing, to improve traffic flow and provide a safer, more reliable crossing, particularly during wet weather events.
At Maud A crossing, permanent culverts, pavement strengthening and road widening will be delivered to improve flood immunity and safety and to reduce the impacts of road closures during periods of heavy rainfall.
These projects are part of the commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that supports regional growth and enhances transport networks.

Malbon River crossing:
- A new 252m-long, two-lane sealed floodway will replace the old single-lane structure
- The new crossing will be widened to 9m for improved capacity and safety

Maud A crossing:
- Installation of new culverts to improve flood immunity and water flow during periods of heavy rainfall.

Funding
The Malbon River crossing upgrade jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the State Road Network Upgrades (SRNU) Investment Program, with a funding commitment of $20 million.

Current status
